Rising star hit with ban despite winning race by seven lengths in a canter

VICTORY had a sting in the tail for rising star Connor Planas after he was slapped with a three-day ban at Chepstow.

Planas was riding the hot favourite Kimnkate in the 7f handicap and the pair won easily, quickening away by seven lengths.

It wasn’t smooth sailing, however, as Planas had to get his metaphorical elbows out to secure a clear run after being trapped on the rail.

Although it looked like a small amount of barging, the stewards weren’t impressed, handing Planas a three-day careless riding ban.

The stewards report read: “Planas was suspended for 3 days for careless riding as he manoeuvred left-handed, when insufficiently clear.

“It resulted in ESTEHWADH (IRE) receiving a bump and being moved off its intended line and UBETTABEQUICK (IRE) being carried off its intended line.”

Planas is an apprentice claiming 5lb and is touted as one of the most exciting jockeys coming through the ranks.

He’s based with the up-and-coming stable of George Boughey, who recently lost one his most promising horses to a rival Newmarket stable.

Planas has ridden eight winners for Boughey thus far, with two of those coming in the past two weeks.

He rode 19 winners in his debut year but has already bettered that in 2023, riding 17 winners from 112 rides.

He has accelerated in recent weeks, riding eight winners from his last 24 rides at the time of writing.

If you backed all of his runners this year, you’d be in a level stakes profit of £28.52, showing just how impressively he’s been riding.
