Rising Star Jockey Sparks Controversy with Race-Winning Move

Jockey's Brilliant Move Sparks Enquiry

Jockey Connor Planas's race-winning move at Sandown on Sunday has caused quite a stir in the racing world. Planas, riding Good Earth, appeared to have jumped the start in the Sunday Series Sprint, prompting a stewards' enquiry.

Stewards Clear Planas of Wrongdoing

Despite the initial doubts raised by his rapid start, the stewards quickly investigated the incident and were satisfied that no wrongdoing had occurred. As a result, the 8-1 shot, Good Earth, was declared the winner of the race.

Planas's Impressive Season

Planas, currently in his second season as an apprentice jockey, is making a name for himself in the racing world. With 32 wins out of 212 rides, his talent and skill are undeniable.

Planas's Account of the Race

Speaking to ITV Racing, Planas described his winning move: "We 100 per cent won that in the stalls, I’ve never sat on a horse who jumps so fast. He took a length and a half out of them from the start, travelled beautifully and picked up again close home."

No Malfunction, Just Quick Thinking

Although still images appeared to show that Good Earth's stall had opened before the others, it was not due to any malfunction. Planas anticipated the start and, as a result, the gates were pushed open slightly as he and Good Earth launched off the line.

Mixed Reactions from Punters

While many punters praised Planas's quick thinking, others expressed discontent with the start. One punter claimed that Planas had "burst the stalls" and criticized the stewards for not voiding the race. However, it seems that a stroke of genius from a rising star cannot be ignored.
