Royal Ascot 2020: Mohaather to run in Tuesday’s Queen Anne as Marcus Tregoning to keep star over a mile

MOHAATHER will contest Tuesday’s Group 1 Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot.

Marcus Tregoning’s stable star had the option of going sprinting this season and a tilt at the Diamond Jubilee, but his trainer has no qualms about the mile trip in the opening day showpiece.

Mohaather was last seen fifth in the QEII on Champions Day after an injury layoff

Last year’s Greenham Stakes winner had been fancied for the Guineas last season before injury interrupted and Tregoning is hopeful he can make up for lost time as a four-year-old this summer.

He told Sun Racing: All things being equal he will go for the Queen Anne on Tuesday.

“He’s had a very good winter, and we’ve been very pleased with what he’s shown of us late despite it all being very difficult for everybody at the moment. He will definitely take his chance.

“What we’ll probably do is see how this goes trip wise and we’ll find out plenty on Tuesday. If we think we need to drop him in trip afterwards then we can do that and nothing is set in stone going forwards.

“But we know he gets seven furlongs really well and so I think depending on the ground, it may test his stamina, but we think he will get the mile fine anyway, we’re hopeful.”

Aidan O’Brien’s Circus Maximus heads up the betting at 3-1, with Fox Chairman second favourite at around 7-1. Mohaather is a 10-1 chance with William Hill.

Tregoning added: “Barring any more injuries we do think he can improve again this season.

“He’s definitely a really important horse to have here and we’re delighted to have one like him.

“It’s great he has stayed in training again and it’s a big thing to have a potentially top-class Group 1 horse on our books.”
