Ruth Jefferson has ‘remarkable’ Waiting Patiently fit and firing for mouthwatering Clarence House clash at Ascot

RUTH Jefferson is hoping her patience pays off at Ascot on Saturday.

The Yorkshire trainer has her ‘remarkable’ stable star Waiting Patiently in flying form for the Grade 1 Clarence House Chase.

Waiting Patiently is a leading contender for Saturday’s big race at Ascot

But the 10-year-old has been notoriously fragile throughout his career, with injury limiting him to just 14 starts.

She said: “He is just one of those horses who has had a lot of problems and it’s been a struggle to have a clean run his whole career.

“He is a remarkable horse, because he’s getting older and he’s had his problems but he always runs his race.

“He is a joy and a headache to train.”

He returned from a year on the sidelines to finish a never-nearer second to Frodon over three miles in the King George on Boxing Day.

But Jefferson has no fears about dropping him back to two miles for tomorrow’s mouthwatering clash with Politologue and Defi Du Seuil.

She said: “He came out of the King George really well.

“He normally has five days off after he’s raced but he was so fresh I had to ride him two days after Kempton.

“He gets quite aggressive in his stable when he is fresh and he was going to hurt someone if we didn’t do something with him!

“He will bite you and kick you if you’re not careful, you need to have your eyes and wits about you.

“I can’t see why the drop in trip would bother the horse, he ran a brilliant race just over a year ago in the Tingle Creek.

“The horse is very versatile, it was pretty fast ground on Boxing Day and it will be testing at Ascot, but he has lots of form on heavy ground.

“I would love to get another Grade 1 on his CV.”
