ICE COOL Jamie Spencer and Saeed bin Suroor rolled back the years as Bedouin’s Story caused a 40-1 Cambridgeshire shock.

The Godolphin outsider stunned the well-backed joint-favourite Anmaat with Spencer bringing the six-year-old through the entire field in trademark style.

It was a third triumph of the meeting for Suroor who continues to pop up with the winners on the big stage despite many writing him off.

After Benbatl’s Joel Stakes victory on Friday, the Newmarket handler looks set to finish the season in style.

Suroor said: “The horse always misses the break and that’s just him! Jamie knew that and he kept him out the back – they suited each other well. The right jockey was on the right horse.

“He always finishes his races well and this trip probably helped as we’ve been running him over a mile.

“The horses have mostly run well this week which is nice. We’ll have plenty to go to Dubai with over the winter too.”

It was a first win in the cavalry charge for Suroor and a second for Spencer, his first coming 15 years ago on Formal Decree.

The jockey said: “I sit beside Frankie in the weighing room and he’s ridden him and won in Dubai.

“He just told me to keep filling him up and if he’s in a good mood he’ll come good for me. Thankfully he was on a good day!”

Earlier on the card Perfect Power’s bright yellow silks lit up a grey Newmarket under a superb Christophe Soumillon.

The French ace steered Richard Fahey’s juvenile to a memorable Middle Park victory to cement his place as Europe’s best two-year-old sprinter.

It was a second Group 1 for the youngster as even hardy northerner Fahey admitted this duo are a bit special.

As the runners stuck to the stands side, the field briefly resembled one of the dreaded queues for petrol up and down the country – but Soumillion and Perfect Power were far from in the red.

Entering the final furlong a handful of horses all held a firm chance, but Soumillon had more in reserve than most and skipped clear on the 11-4 favourite.

Irish raider Castle Star was half a length back in second with Richard Hannon’s Armor third.

Fahey smiled: “When we got stall one I just thought ‘someone, somewhere doesn’t like us!’

“It meant I was a bit negative coming here but the way he quickened up today – it took a special ride and a special, special horse to win like that.

“Christophe said he’d drop him out because of the draw and I left him to it, he did the rest!”

Aidan O’Brien produced a typically magical training performance with Tenebrism (14-1) who swooped late for the Group 1 Cheveley Park.

Off since her winning debut in March, the filly was reportedly only just ready to return to the track and could head to the Breeders’ Cup next.
