, Scottish Grand National at Ayr rescheduled to prevent clash with Prince Philip funeral next weekend

THE Scottish Grand National will be moved back a day as a mark of respect to Prince Philip.

No racing at all will take place in Britain between 2.45 and 4.15 next Saturday – the day of the Duke Of Edinburgh’s funeral.

The Scottish Grand National will be run behind closed doors now on Sunday 18 April

Ayr’s big race was due to be run at 3.35, but will be moved back a day.

The Duke Of Edinburgh’s funeral is at 3.00 and other sports have already announced fixtures will be moved.

Newbury’s fixture pencilled in for the same day that includes a pair of Classic trial will also move back a day.

ITV had been set to show both meetings and will continue to do so on the Sunday.

British racing will continue to appropriately reflect the period of national mourning at fixtures through to Saturday 17 April, including wearing of black armbands and flags flying at half-mast.

Fixtures at Bangor-on-Dee and Thirsk on April 17 will be moved to an early start so as to conclude by 2:45.

But fixtures at Brighton and Nottingham on the same day will be staged on or near their planned start times, though minor race time adjustments may be announced tomorrow.
