Nicky Henderson's star horse, Shishkin, showed impressive form in a secret workout at Kempton recently, as the trainer sets his sights on the King George prize on Boxing Day. Shishkin, a former Supreme and Arkle winner, is being prepared for the blockbuster 3m race after refusing to race in the Grade 2 Nirvana Spa 1965 Chase last month. Henderson has entered him in the rearranged Fighting Fifth as a warm-up for the Kempton cracker, where he is said to have performed flawlessly. Shishkin is currently priced at 8-1 for the King George, with Gerri Colombe as the 9-4 favorite.
Secret Workout at Kempton
Shishkin, the stable star of trainer Nicky Henderson, had a secret workout at Kempton last week in preparation for the upcoming King George race. The former Supreme and Arkle winner is aiming for glory on Boxing Day and is currently priced at 8-1 for the event.
During the secret workout, Shishkin showed no signs of his previous refusal to race. Under jockey Nico de Boinville, he jumped ten fences flawlessly, leaving Henderson 'chuffed' with his performance. The horse is proving to be a top talent over the staying trip, having won the Grade 1 Aintree Bowl last April.
King George Favorites
Gerri Colombe, trained by Gordon Elliott and bound for the Gold Cup, is currently the favorite for the King George race at 9-4. Shishkin follows closely behind at 8-1. Defending champion Bravemansgame, trained by Paul Nicholls, is priced at 11-4. There is also a possibility that Willie Mullins' horse, Allaho, priced at 5-1, could make the journey to compete in the race.
