The highly anticipated showdown between Constitution Hill and Shishkin is set to take place at Sandown this Saturday in the Fighting Fifth.
Weather Threatens Showdown
However, there is a potential obstacle that could dampen the excitement – heavy rain is forecasted for Sandown.
Constitution Hill is ready to make his seasonal return in the rearranged Fighting Fifth
Trainer Nicky Henderson has confirmed that both Constitution Hill, the unbeaten champion hurdler, and Shishkin, the former Supreme winner, will be running in the Grade 1 race.
However, with a yellow weather warning in effect for many parts of the UK, Sandown could be hit with heavy rain later today and on Saturday morning.
This raises concerns that the ground could become too heavy, potentially leading to a last-minute Non-Runner (NR).
Top Contenders Declared
Love Envoi, You Wear It Well, Not So Sleepy, and Goshen have also been declared for the race, but all eyes will be on the clash between Constitution Hill and Shishkin.
Constitution Hill's jockey, Nico de Boinville, who has ridden the horse to all seven of its career victories, will be in the saddle once again.
Meanwhile, James Bowen has been booked to ride Shishkin, who appears to be using this race as a warm-up for the King George on Boxing Day.
Speculation Surrounding Constitution Hill
Speculation has been swirling about whether or not Constitution Hill, owned by Michael Buckley, would run in the race.
His odds on the Betfair Exchange dramatically drifted, reaching a high of 8 before quickly dropping back down.
As a result, some punters are now sitting on potentially lucrative betslips, with the six-year-old currently priced at 1-3.
The Fighting Fifth, which offers a prize of £45,000 to the winner, was rescheduled to this week after the cancellation of racing at Newcastle last weekend.
The race is part of an exciting eight-race card, which includes the Tingle Creek at 3pm, where Henderson's Jonbon is the 4-11 favorite.
