Star Horse Shishkin Breaks 30-Year Record with On-Track Antics

Unwanted Record

Shishkin, one of racing's top stayers, has broken an unwanted 30-year record following his on-track quirks that shocked punters. The horse refused to race and didn't even break the starting tape at the 1965 Chase at Ascot on Saturday.

Reluctance to Race

Before the race even began, Shishkin showed signs of reluctance to race. The multiple Grade 1 winner whipped around at the start and planted himself, leaving punters stunned and disappointed.

The Dreaded Squiggle

Leading data provider Timeform didn't miss Shishkin's antics either. They have given the horse the dreaded squiggle, which signifies a horse that is "unreliable for temperamental or other reasons." Timeform's chase handicapper Phil Turner commented on Shishkin's unique situation.

Battling Qualities

Despite his refusal to race, Shishkin has displayed tremendous battling qualities in several of his biggest wins. However, this unpredictability makes him a risky betting proposition for now.

High Rating

Shishkin is currently rated 176 by Timeform, 2lb clear of Tidal Bay, who also received the infamous squiggle. Other highly-rated horses like Cyrname, Outlander, and Samcro have also been given the squiggle.

What's Next?

Shishkin is entered in Saturday's Rehearsal Handicap Chase at Newcastle. However, it remains uncertain whether he will actually consent to race. If he does, he will need to concede more than a stone to his rivals, making it a Herculean effort.
