Telecaster back after long holiday as Hughie Morrison hoping for trip to Ireland plus updates on his other stars

TRAINER Hughie Morrison is thrilled to have stable star Telecaster back on song.

Last year’s Dante winner was given a holiday after a Derby and Eclipse no show, but Morrison is hoping a trip to Ireland may be on the cards.

Morrison told Sun Racing: “He would have run at Sandown in the Gordon Richard Stakes but we’ve put the hand brake on for now.

“He looks fantastic though and the winter and long break has done him the world of good. He’s moving well and is full of himself, like a bomb waiting to go off.

“Hopefully if the situation allows we can go to Ireland for the Tattersalls Gold Cup.”

Telecaster beat Too Darn Hot in the Dante Stakes before he was supplemented for the Derby.

Things didn’t go to plan and Morrison was forced to pull stumps as the racing caught up with him.

He added: “We made the right decision to stop when we did last year after a busy start. For an immature horse he did an awful lot very quickly and it caught up with him.

“Depending how his early starts go we’ll then either have to be realistic or we can pitch him in to races like the Eclipse.

“It sounds like there may be no three-year-olds in a number of these Group 1s, but with horses like Enable around it’ll always be very competitive.”

Morrison will be without two stable stalwarts for the start of the Flat season, whenever that may be.

One time Melbourne Cup hopeful Marmelo has been retired to stud while jumping sensation Not So Sleepy will have a holiday before having another crack at the Flat later in the season.

The baton has been passed to winning two-year-olds With Respect and Starcat, who both have Classic aspirations for the Berkshire handler.

Morrison added: “With Respect needs soft ground I think. We would have run him in one of the Guineas trials, probably at Newbury so hopefully they’ll be something for him sooner rather than later.

“Starcat is another very nice horse. We’ve entered him up in the big races and like with With Respect we’ll probably go for a trial and see where we are.”

Le Don De Vie is looking really well. In another three weeks or so he’ll be spot on and hopefully we can begin to plot some nice races for him, he’s progressive.

Romsey could be quite difficult to place with a rating of 97 but she’s got her black type now and I’d be disappointed if she hasn’t trained on. She’s come back and looks fantastic.”
