Templegate’s runner by runner guide and big tip for £1million Juddmonte International at York

HIGH-CLASS globetrotter MISHRIFF can land the Juddmonte International.

John and Thady Gosden’s ace has already trousered £10m from big wins across the world and ran another cracker when second at Ascot last time.

Mishriff is yet to win a Group 1 on home turf

Dropping to his best trip can see him strike again at Group 1 level.

Dual Classic winner Love is the obvious threat although she was put in her place by the selection last time. Alcohol Free looks the pick of the youngsters, especially if the Knavesmire sees some rain.

JUAN ELCANO 1

EL no. Has never really fulfilled the promise of his fifth in last season’s 2,000 Guineas but did win for the first time since his debut when taking the Listed Wolferton Stakes at Royal Ascot. Ran well again when beaten a head in the Group 2 York Stakes here last time but takes another big hike in grade and needs a fair bit more.

MISHRIFF 5

RIFF sounds good. Globetrotting superstar who has won more than £10m thanks to massive wins in Dubai and Saudi Arabia. Was very rusty on his UK comeback in the Coral-Eclipse before showing his true colours pushing Derby winner Adayar close in the King George VI at Ascot last time. The 1m4f just stretched him a little and dropping back to this distance is ideal. He goes on any ground and his quality can see him home.

LOVE 4

LOVE it. Was brilliant last year winning the 1,000 Guineas and Oaks before taking the Yorkshire version here as she won four Group 1s in a row. She didn’t look quite herself when still running well behind Mishriff at Ascot last time. This trip suits well and we know she handles the track. Looks the main danger but will have to be at her best to turn the form around.

Love was electric in last year’s Yorkshire Oaks at the Ebor Festival

ALENQUER 3

ALEN key. She is improving with every run having kicked off this season with a Group 3 win at Sandown before stepping up to take the King Edward VII Stakes at Royal Ascot with plenty in hand. She ran well on her first crack at this level when a staying-on third in the Grand Prix De Paris behind Hurricane Lane. Dropping to this trip doesn’t look an obvious move but William Haggas is in top form and she could take another step forward.

MAC SWINEY 2

MAC the knife. Legend Jim Bolger’s UK raiders are always respected and this son of New Approach kicked off this season with a gutsy short-head Irish Guineas win. He hasn’t matched that form twice since in the Epsom and Irish Derbies and maybe dropping back from 1m4f will help. Some cut in the ground would suit but he has a few questions to answer now.

MOHAAFETH 3

MOH can go. Another from in-form William Haggas who has been progressing nicely at lower levels. He started with two Newmarket wins before stepping up to take the Group 3 Hampton Court Stakes at Royal Ascot. He ran another decent race when beaten a neck in the York Stakes after coming from a long way back. He didn’t have enough left in the tank for the closing stages and should outrun that form if able to stay nearer the pace — but this is a hotter contest.

ALCOHOL FREE 4

FREE bet. High-class filly who has run only at Group 1 level this season and performed well each time. She is best with some cut in the ground as she showed when winning the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot. Her personal best came at Goodwood last time when she ran away with the Sussex Stakes. Stepping up from a mile is the question mark here but she is a strong traveller who should get home. She gets weight off the whole field and looks the pick of the three-year-olds, especially if the ground eases.
