The Queen expected to attend Royal Ascot on Saturday to view bumper TEN race card if rain forces delay

ROYAL Ascot chiefs could push back Friday’s racing if today’s card is lost to the weather.

And with The Queen expected to attend the meeting for the first time this week tomorrow, she could be in for a Royal treat with a bumper ten-race card being contemplated.

The Queen has had 23 winners at Royal Ascot

Officials have called an inspection for 12.45 this afternoon to decide whether racing can go ahead.

A total of 26mm of rain has fallen since yesterday evening, with more on its way.

The course is concerned with the ground on the turn into the home bend, with puddles forming in some areas.

The Queen has yet to attend the Royal Meeting so far this week with Prince Charles and Camilla so far undertaking the Royal duties.

It has yet to be confirmed, but the Queen is expected to show on Saturday with a number of horses running in her colours.

Reach For The Moon, Tactical, King’s Lynn and Light Reform are all declared to run on Saturday in her famous silks.

The usual carriage procession that precedes each day’s racing is unlikely to take place.

But given the current weather that may be a wise decision anyway.

The last time a day’s action at Royal Ascot was lost to the rain was in 1964.

However, with the potential to move Friday’s Group races – the Coronation Stakes, Commonwealth Cup and King Edward VII – to tomorrow, punters could be in for a bumper Saturday.

And the Queen is set to watch in person for the first time this week. Her security detail have been on standby all week.

Perhaps the only thing that may change her mind is the rain!
