RACING is paying a fitting tribute to the Queen with a stunning St Leger card at Doncaster today.

Flags will fly at half-mast, with jockeys in black armbands and a period of silence held before the extended nine-race card.

Horse racing will pay tribute to its greatest supporter, the Queen

Her Majesty was racing’s greatest supporter and meetings at Chelmsford and Southwell were abandoned on Thursday night following her death.

All fixtures on Friday and Saturday were also cancelled out of respect.

But racing chiefs decided to get the show back on the road today.

Tributes will be paid to the Queen, who won the St Leger in 1977 with Dunfermline, throughout the poignant day.

ITV Racing presenter Ed Chamberlin said: “It has been a very difficult week for racing — but we will do our best to pay tribute to Her Majesty.

“I hope the racecourse is flooded with families carrying Union Jacks to pay their respects.

“But also to say thank you and celebrate her most incredible life.”

Hot favourite in the St Leger is New London.

The race will jump at 3.55pm with Charlie Appleby’s star, ridden by William Buick, set to go off odds-on.

Frankie Dettori’s mount Haskoy is second favourite ahead of Queen’s Vase winner Eldar Eldarov.
