This 20-1 shot looks a cracking each-way bet for July Cup plus why favourite Perfect Power may skip Newmarket

THIS week’s July Cup is the Perfect example of the perils antepost punters face.

The 7-4 favourite Perfect Power is by no means guaranteed to run and even if he does, surely you will get bigger than that come Saturday afternoon.

Perfect Power would need a new jockey if he heads to France for the Prix Jean Prat

Just look at Coral-Eclipse hero Vadeni. All week he was floating around the 6-4 mark and ended up winning at 11-4.

I love a good tickle at bigger odds if you know your selection is going to run, but anyone chancing Perfect Power at this stage needs their head checked.

The trainer has told me his star will face a key workout his morning before he decides where he’ll head.

The July Cup is an option, but so is Sunday’s Prix Jean Prat in Deauville where the three-year-old would be kept away from older horses he’d race against at Newmarket.

Fahey said: “Nothing’s decided yet. It’s just a real pain in the arse the two races that suit him best are a day apart.

“He’ll work on Tuesday and we’ll go from there. I’m not shirking anything but I want to do best by the horse and give him the best chance.

“At the moment Christophe [Soumillon] can’t ride if we go to France so that’s another thing we’d need to sort.”
