Their win came from a Lucky 31 bet, where they correctly predicted the outcomes of five races. They hit the jackpot when Henry Daly-trained Miltiades won the Class 5 2m4f handicap chase at Ludlow.
A Double Celebration
Incredibly, another bettor was also celebrating at the same time, winning £19,151.52 from a tiny 50p stake. Their win was also reliant on Miltiades' victory. Both winners earned more than the £15,000 prize money that horse and jockey Richard Patrick received for winning the race.

Lee Phelps, a spokesperson for William Hill, admitted that the bookie sustained significant losses due to these winning bets. He called the wins of £20,000 and £14,000 "fantastic results" from small investments and described the seven-fold win as "one of the best bets we've seen in 2023."
