DUAL Grand National winner Tiger Roll swapped the turf for the surf on Sunday.

The Aintree legend was one of 15 Gordon Elliott runners to unwind with a trip to the beach.

The 11-year-old was joined by superstar stablemate Envoi Allen, who is the red-hot favourite for the Marsh Chase at the Cheltenham Festival.

Grade 1 winner Abacadabras, who will head to the Champion Hurdle in March, also stretched his legs on the sand at Mornington Beach in County Meath, north of Dublin.

The race meeting scheduled to take place at Naas today was abandoned due to frost.

So the rare off-day meant Elliott, his staff and some of his top-notchers could get down to the coast for a change of scenery.

Elliott’s head girl Camilla Sharples tweeted: “No racing today meant 15 horses enjoyed a morning out at Mornington Beach.

“Envoi Allen, Tiger Roll and Abacadabras to name a few.”

Tiger Roll became the first horse since Red Rum to win two Grand Nationals when he landed the big one in April 2019.

He was unable to defend his crown last season as the meeting was cancelled because of the coronavirus pandemic.

He will chase three wins in the Cross Country Chase at the Cheltenham Festival in two months’ time.

Envoi Allen is unbeaten over fences and currently heads the betting at Evens with Betfair for the Marsh Chase.

He was considered the ‘Irish banker’ at last year’s Festival, and didn’t let punters down in the Ballymore Novices’ Hurdle.
