Title fight still on as Richard Johnson returns to saddle at Musselburgh on Thursday

MIRACLE man Dickie Johnson will return to the saddle at Musselburgh tomorrow, just five weeks after breaking his arm.

And the four-time Champion Jockey is not about to give up his title easily as he fired a warning shot to Brian Hughes.

He told Sun Racing: Ill definitely be giving the title a good go.

Ive got a lot of work to do but you never know whats around the corner and Ill be trying as hard as I can and its fingers crossed.

At the time of his tumble – 36 days ago – Johnson was only three winners behind title rival Hughes, but that has extended to 19.

But the bookies have shortened Johnson up to regain his title in recent days after his amazing recovery, with Ladbrokes cutting Johnson into 7-2 from 12-1.

He heads up to Scotland to partner two for trainer Olly Murphy and has spent the last week riding out to regain some fitness following his spell on the sidelines.

He will ride Made For You in the 1.30 followed by Dubai Guest in the bumper at 3.52.

Johnson added: Ive got two good rides up there, it could be a bit closer but its all about trying to get back in the swing of things and hopefully get a winner too.

The arm feels really good. Ive had fantastic help from lots of places like the BHA and the chief medical man Dr Jerry Hill. I have to thank them all for getting me back in one piece.

Im delighted to be back and its just nice to be able to get back to the day job and I look forward to getting back and trying to ride a winner.

And trainer Olly Murphy reckons he may well have lined up a winner for Johnson on his anticipated return.

Murphy said: I hope we can give Dickie a winner and I’d say Dubai Guest probably has the best chance, as it doesn’t look the strongest bumper in the world and he ran much better than his finishing position suggests on his first run at Warwick.

“I would hope he’ll run very well.

“We’re very lucky to be able to have Dickie available to ride for us when he’s not riding for Philip Hobbs.

“He’s the best for a reason and a big part of the team, so we’re delighted to have him back.”
