Racing manager threatens to "strangle" jockey with bare hands

A top jockey is at risk of losing his job after a racing manager threatened to "strangle him with my bare hands." The manager's anger stems from the jockey's questionable ride on one of Australia's best sprinters.

Star sprinter's disappointing performance raises eyebrows

Giga Kick, who had an impressive record earlier this year with wins in the Everest and two more Group 1 races, was the favorite in his Group 2 return at Moonee Valley over the weekend. However, things went unexpectedly wrong.

Typically, Giga Kick is held back for a late run, but the jockey, Craig Williams, made the unusual decision to rush him up around the bend for home. This decision cost the horse crucial ground and allowed the eventual winner, Imperatriz, to trail closely.

Racing manager doesn't hold back in his criticism

Rod Douglas, the racing manager and uncle of Giga Kick's trainer, did not mince his words when expressing his frustration. In a radio interview, he stated, "I'd have strangled him with my bare hands, I'd have strangled him in the mounting yard. There's no excuse for what he did."

Douglas believes that the jockey's actions were inexcusable, especially considering that he knew the horse's potential and where the team stood with him.

Uncertain future for jockey

Jonathan Munz, the owner of Giga Kick, will ultimately decide whether Williams stays on as the jockey. Douglas has indicated that Munz may choose to consider other options, as numerous jockeys have already expressed interest in riding the star sprinter.

Trainer's disappointment and changing plans

Giga Kick's trainer, Clayton Douglas, was devastated by the ride, as it has forced the team to reevaluate their plans. The horse now needs time to recover, and the decision of whether to continue with the Premiere or have a couple of trials before the Everest remains uncertain.

Consider other options for betting on the Everest

Despite Giga Kick being the favorite with bet365 for the Everest, Douglas's comments suggest that it may be wise to explore other betting options.
