Top jumps jockey Aidan Coleman ruled out until October after suffering broken arm at Southwell

AIDAN Coleman has confirmed he suffered a broken arm in a fall at Southwell last week.

The leading rider was taken to hospital after coming down on Dieg Man at the second last on July 30.

Coleman won the Arkle in March aboard Put The Kettle On

He will now be out for 10-12 weeks, but he is hopeful he will be fit in time for the start of the jumps season proper in October.

Coleman had enjoyed a good start to the new campaign, with five winners from 36 rides.

He is believed to be in the frame for the job as JP McManus’ retained rider, having won on the likes of Epatante and Champ in the famous green and gold in recent years.

Coleman said: “Unfortunately, I fractured my humerus at Southwell last week after a fall.

“I’ve had plenty of contact with BHA doctor Jerry Hill and my specialist Geoff Graham, who have both been amazing, and after my scan they have told me to expect a 10 to 12 week break before I can go back racing.

“It’s obviously not ideal with the season starting off so well with some good early momentum following the coronavirus lockdown, but injuries are part of the job and every jockey has been there before.

“I’m looking forward to getting to Oaksey House in Lambourn as soon as possible to start my rehabilitation and I’m then looking forward to returning in October.”

He remains a 33-1 chance for the jumps jockeys title with Paddy Power, with the market headed by Brian Hughes (5-6f) and Richard Johnson (11-8).
