Trainer Colin Teague could record training performance of season as Koropick returns in Ayr Gold Cup

COLIN TEAGUE will bid to pull off the training sensation of the season with 80-1 poke Koropick in the Ayr Gold Cup.

The six-year-old returns to the track in tomorrow’s big one for his first race in just under three years.

Koropick’s last win came in the Group 3 Chipchase Stakes for Hugo Palmer

Koropick was a useful sprinter for Hugo Palmer and his last win was in the Group 3 Chipchase Stakes in Newcastle.

That was enough to see him sent to live a life of luxury at stud.

However Koropick’s dreams of being a star stallion turned into a nightmare when his dates dwindled.

Even worse, his owners then decided it was time to give him the snip and he was sent back into training with Newcastle trainer Teague minus his tackle.

Teague said: “With everything going on he wasn’t getting the mares they’d hoped for so a good owner of mine bought him.

“He’s a proper horse and you can tell he is with what we’ve seen.

“But he’s bound to be a bit rusty. If he’d had a run before this I’d be having a few quid on at his odds, but he’ll need it.

“He’s got a good draw in 17 though, he’s by some fancied horses so we should get a good tow in and the quicker the ground the better.”
