Trainer George Boughey set to supplement star filly Mystery Angel for Oaks at Epsom after talks with owners

YOUNG gun trainer George Boughey is set to supplement his Mystery Angel for a shot at the Cazoo Oaks.

Boughey has made a flying start to the year, with 39 winners already to his name in just his third season training.

Mystery Angel completed a workout under Ben Curtis at Epsom on Monday

And the 29-year-old hopes to keep up momentum with a first Classic runner at Epsom next Friday at a cost of £30,000.

He said: “The decision is not one-hundred percent just yet, but it’s looking likely and I just need to sign it off fully with the owner.

“If there had been a 4-6 hot favourite things would have been different, but she looks worth her place and is a lively outsider I reckon.

“If we can run into the top three or four there is some nice prize money on offer and we’d love a bit of that.”

Newmarket-based Boughey has quickly built up a reputation as a trainer to watch but is still pinching himself at discussing a first Classic runner.

He laughed: “It’s all a bit surreal to be honest, I couldn’t have dreamt this would be the case.

“Things are going really well obviously and this horse has been a star for us.

“Her breeding makes you think she’d be a sprinter, but she looks like a ten furlong horse and runs like one, so hopefully the extra two furlongs are fine.

“You need speed at Epsom and she has plenty of that.

“She was only a cheap buy and has already given the owners lots of big days. Here’s hoping for another one to remember.”
