, Veteran sprinter Caspian Prince chasing FOURTH win in Epsom Dash – seven years after his first and on his 112th start

VETERAN sprinter Caspian Prince is chasing his fourth Epsom Dash crown this weekend.

The popular 12-year-old has run in the last SIX renewals of the big Derby day handicap.

Caspian Prince has won the Epsom Dash three times in his career

He bagged the race at the first attempt in 2014 and followed up with short-head wins in 2016 and 2017.

Each of those victories came for a different trainer and he has been out of luck in two tries for Mick Appleby.

But the top trainer reckons Caspian Prince is heading to Epsom in flying form – and he is quietly confident he can outrun his 14-1 odds.

He said: “Caspian Prince is a legend. He’s been running at a high level for years and he has still got an appetite for it.

“He’s still very enthusiastic and in great order at home, he still gives a buck and a kick in the mornings.

“He’s been amazing for his owner Stephen Louch, he’s taken him to big meetings around the world.

“He’s won a Group 2, he’s won big races in Dubai, he’s won the Dash three times. He is a lovely horse to be around.”

Caspian Prince has had 111 starts during a superb career.

He has won 21 races and earned over £800k in prize money since making his debut back in December 2011.

But he will be a teenager this time next year, and Appleby hinted this could be his final season.

He added: “This will be his seventh run in the race and probably his last. He isn’t getting any younger and he doesn’t owe anything to any of us.

“The ground will be perfect for him at Epsom. He’s drawn low which isn’t ideal, but he has won from stall one in this race in the past.

“He still has plenty of ability and we think he goes there with a very good chance.”
