Watch amazing moment racing punter finds out he’s won £96,000 with miracle Melbourne Cup bets

THIS is the brilliant moment a lucky punter finds out he’s won £96,000 on the Melbourne Cup – after finally getting his phone to work again.

Ozzie punter Tom knew he had placed a load of bets on the ‘race that stops a nation’… but couldn’t remember just how many.

This is the moment Tom finally gets his phone to load… and finds out he’s won £96,000

Gold Trip was a worthy winner of the Melbourne Cup at Flemington racecourse

He was certain he had taken up one bookies’ offer of pricing up every horse at 100-1.

So he knew the tenner he put on eventual winner Gold Trip had netted him a grand.

But there was much, much more to come – he just had to frantically charge his phone to find out how much.

He told Punters: “I was celebrating Gold Trip because I’d just won a grand off a tenner.

“I’d done me nut in all day, so I was just stoked to get a result.

“Then I remembered that I’d backed High Emocean each-way and was happy to see it finished third at nice odds.

“I wasn’t even thinking of the first four to finish bet I’d put on until I realised Emissary had finished second.

“I didn’t have a clue who had run fourth and I couldn’t check on my phone because it had gone flat.

“So I’m standing over in the corner charging my phone, waiting for it to come back on.

“I’ve told people that if Deauville Legend has come fourth, I’ve got the first four.

“Sure enough, he did, and I’ve got people rushing around, doing calculations.

“Because my phone was dead, I had this moment of panic, questioning whether I actually put Gold Trip in the first four.

“I’m standing there shaking, just holding my phone.

“I reckon I charged it for ten minutes before it came back on, but it felt like two hours.

“Then I eventually open the app, see number one Gold Trip in there and I’m just hitting refresh like a mad man.

“The balance comes up and there is £96,000 ($171,000) sitting in the account.”

The punter admitted his life-changing win was a bit of fluke, telling friends ‘I just got lucky off a few random numbers’.

The party continued until 3am… when Tom was brought back down to earth by his partner’s plans for the money.

He added: “I’ve got a two-year-old and a five-week old, so my missus is already looking at houses and has picked out a few for us.”

Ah well, can’t win ’em all.
