Brooke is sent absolutely flying off Bird On The Wire

Incredibly, the pile-up happened at the very first obstacle.

Deutsch, who has won prize money totalling almost £2million during his career, was on board 9-2 shot and debutant Salopian Boy.

The Venetia Williams-trained four-year-old looked to be travelling OK before the first flight of hurdles in the 2m 3f race.

But the horse veered wildly to its left when refusing to jump and clattered into two others.

Jockey A. P. Heskin was sent flying off 33-1 shot Locallink and Henry Brooke came crashing to the turf aboard 18-1 outsider Bird On The Wire.

Fortunately all three horses seemed unhurt and continued to run on.

But it was not immediately clear if the same could be said for the jockeys.

And television cameras picked up Deutsch being treated by the on-course medical team.

All the bodies hit the floor after the carnage at the first flight of hurdles

One fan watching at home tweeted: “Fingers crossed Charlie Deutsch is OK there. Looked nasty.”

Another wrote: “Salopian Boy has just caused carnage at Bangor-on-Dee.”

Jockey Sam Waley-Cohen was lucky to avoid serious injury last week when he was kicked in the face by a horse.

The amateur rider and dentist fell from his horse Igor but got whacked by fellow runner Flegmatik.

Both the jockey and horse were reported to be fine after the incident.
