A PUNTER was reduced to tears watching this incredible horse race from Sandown.
Paul Mulrennan pulled off another beautiful ride on the ageless Euchen Glen – despite giving up at least ten lengths at the start.
To the untrained eye it looks like Callum Shepherd on leader Father Of Jazz has established an insurmountable lead.
The Roger Varian-trained 15-2 shot goes miles clear in the £29,500 Davies Insurance Services Gala Stakes listed contest.
Trailing behind him are 5-4 favourite John Leeper, 10-1 Gloucestershire, 4-1 Fox Tal and, all the way in last, Euchen Glen.
But that was all part of Mulrennan’s cunning plan.
He knew Euchen Glen just loves to devour the ground late on at Sandown, relishing the uphill climb to finish – just as he did when a shock 20-1 winner at course and distance in May.
And sure enough, as the race progressed and others pushed harder, the Jim Goldie-trainer superstar breezed into contention.
One by one Mulrennan picked off rivals, eventually cruising past the post in first place.
Regular punters at home knew what was coming watching the action – but there is always the chance a runaway leader won’t be caught.
So there was a slight relief – and Mulrennan admitted as much himself – when Euchen Glen prevailed at the end.
The win was enough to reduce one punter to tears.
They posted on Twitter: “There’s nae catching Mr Euchen Glen at the moment! Brings a wee tear to my eye when he does that! Well Done!”
Another fan said: “As everyone else has said, we all love old Euchen Glen don’t we? What a fabulous boy he is.”
A fellow Twitter user wrote: “Euchen Glen continues to fill up his impressive CV. His versatility and his ‘will to win’ are two of his many many qualities. What a horse.”
Another comment read: “If you can’t bring yourself to absolutely adore Euchen Glen… I worry for you! What a horse.”
One posted: “Absolute legend of a horse Euchen Glen!”
