PUNTERS were left purring over a promising young jockey after this remarkable last-to-first ride.
Apprentice Callum Hutchinson sprung a shock from miles back in a seven-furlong race at Kempton last night.
He looked to be well out of it on 11-1 shot Spirituoso, who had previously never won in nine races.
But Hutchinson, 19, showed all the skill of a wily old veteran by scathing through the field just when it mattered most.
Look closely and you can see Hutchinson’s red cap way at the back of the field, in last place with just over two furlongs to go.
But by the furlong pole he has breezed past eight rivals and has the top three in his sights.
Still, bypassing them all looked nigh on impossible with the finishing post fast approaching.
Cue the magic.
Hutchinson asked his three-year-old for more and she sprouted wings.
With a plum path down the inside running rail, Spirituoso hit top speed in the dying strides to deny them all.
Secret To Success, the 2-1 favourite, came second in the 5.40pm contest, with 14-1 Heer’s Sadie half a length behind in third.
But this was all about Hutchinson and his killer move.
One punter said: “What an amazing ride from a courageous and talented apprentice! Well done young Hutchinson.”
Another commented: “Good for George, he’s a smashing bloke!”
A fellow racing fan wrote: “That was absolutely amazing, brilliant riding, on the money, awesome.”
