Watch jockey pull off ‘ride of the year’ on horse that went to 460-1 in-running before somehow winning at Southwell

JOCKEY Andrew Breslin pulled off an ‘astonishing’ win at Southwell on a horse that hit an incredible 460-1 in-running.

Punters were praising his ‘ride of the year’ as he somehow managed to get Desert Boots home in front having been tailed off in the early stages.

But Andrew Breslin got him going in the home straight
And he stormed through to win having hit 460-1 in-running

The Mark Johnston-trained runner was sent off a 5-1 shot in the competitive 6f handicap.

But his supporters will have been tempted to tear up their betting slips after the horse was bumper and badly fluffed the start.

He was struggling out the back just a furlong into the race and driven along by young Irish jock Breslin.

The 5lb claimer hadn’t ridden a winner at Southwell in 25 previous attempts – and he would not have expected to break his duck in the 1.45 given how it started.

Turning into the straight, Desert Boots was still at least 12 lengths behind the leaders and flat to the boards.

But he began to pick off rivals one by one on the inside and stormed through late for a stunning win.

Man on the mic Stewart Machin was caught by surprise as the horse burst through around a furlong out.

He said: “Desert Boots is running on strongly on the far side from off the pace.

“He’s come storming through from last to first to take this – in the end a shade cosily.”

Punters were left gobsmacked, with one Tweeting: “That’s got to be ride of the year there from Andrew Breslin on Desert Boots wow.”

Another said: “I still can’t believe that has won… And I watched it live and twice since. Hats off to Andrew Breslin, ride of the month without a doubt.”

One racing Tweeted: “How did that win, jockey earned his fee there.”

While another simply said: “Astonishing.”
