PUNTERS were blown away by this incredibly cocky ride that saw one horse humiliate his rivals with a devastating late move.
You would have had a devil’s own job of picking out the winner with just over a furlong to go of this 1m2f contest from Pau in France.
And in truth even with barely 100 yards to go it looked like jockey Jean-Bernard Eyquem had too much to do on 9-4 favourite Glaer.
But Eyquem showed a simply amazing level of composure to remain practically motionless on the four-year-old gelding as he went through the gears.
A slight tap of the neck looked enough to get the Jean-Claude Rouget-trained runner doing just enough.
And as it turned out that was all that was needed to pick off the other horses one by one.
Glaer’s official winning margin was half a length.
Had Eyquem asked for more than you get the feeling Glaer would have totally wiped the floor with his rivals.
As it was, it was the almost obnoxious manner of his win that lit up social media.
Sky Sports Racing posted a clip of the end of the race with the comment: “One of the most ridiculously easy winners you’ll see in a long time!”
Another said it was like the jockey had ‘ice in his veins’.
A fellow punter commented: “Eased down with two still in front of it.”
Another post read: “Has five lengths in store.”
One viewer summed the mesmerising move up nicely by saying: “Silky ride.”
Another wrote: “What’s cooler than ice cool…”
While another said: “That’s ridiculous.”
It turned out to be quite the afternoon at Pau, with the race before this one being plunged into chaos as the first and second past the post were disqualified.
That meant the horse who finished third was named winner.
The other two were kicked out of the standings for running the wrong way.
