‘We might’ve made a mistake’ – £425,000 horse sold for a snip due to ‘problematic manhood’

, ‘We might’ve made a mistake’ – £425,000 horse sold for a snip due to ‘problematic manhood’

A £425,000 horse has sold for a relative snip at just over £11,000 – due to his ‘problematic manhood’.

Named Forbes, connections would have expected the highly valued yearling to appear on racing’s rich list with victories galore.

And that looked the plan when original owner James Harron stumped up mega cash to land him.

But the three-year-old failed to win in six runs and Harron sold up to Australian trainer Linda Pearson, taking a £414,000 hit in the process.

Half of the problem was a throat issue – hopefully rectified with surgery last November.

The other was what’s between his legs.

Gelding horses is, of course, very common, and Pearson told Punters – who dubbed the horse’s manhood ‘problematic – that she hopes removing them could turn him into the champ he always promised to be.

Pearson said she thought Forbes would go for double what she paid in an online auction.

And though she admitted taking him on is risky, she hopes she will be rewarded for her ballsy move.

Pearson told Punters: “I wouldn’t have been surprised to see him go twice that.

“Then again, maybe there’s other things we don’t know that other people do, we might’ve made a mistake.

“I’m willing to take the risk anyway.

“As far as his tie-back [throat op]… we bought one six months ago that had a tie-back, but had failed and we had it re-done. We’re hoping that’ll help him.

“This guy [Forbes], it’s hard to know. They reckon the tie-back’s OK, it might be just the fact he’s not handling being a colt.

“We’re not expecting him to be what he was when he first raced, but I think he should be good enough to at least win around the country on his present form.

“And if we get him cut, and different environment, he might spark up for us.”

Sun Racing told you in January last year how a horse was sold after his ‘abnormally large testicles’ were blamed for his poor form.

Morethannumberone – originally bought for a hefty £212,000 – managed just one win in 15 starts before being sold.
