Welcome Saturday winner for Alan King as Who Dares Wins earns Pendil success after Master Tommytucker departs

THE versatile Who Dares Wins got back on track in the Grade 2 Pendil Novices’ Chase.

Alan King’s staying supremo made the most of Master Tommytucker’s fall turning in to see off Southfield Stone after the last.

Trainer Alan King was all smiles as his stable star landed the 14,000 first prize in what’s been a frustrating season for the Wiltshire handler.

Master Tommytucker took the field along throughout and despite falling on two of his three goes over fences, looked in control before departing as the field turned for home.

It woke the chasing pack and Southfield Stone and Who Dares Wins quickly emerged as the chief contenders.

Southfield Stone jumped the last just in front, but the game Who Dares Wins edged back in front under Tom Cannon.

King said: “He’s a very good horse and he’s taken us everywhere. Ascot, Cheltenham and Liverpool.

“He’s wonderful and it all went wrong for him last time at Plumpton. He doesn’t want it heavy either so we’ve waited and been patient with him.

“We had to then come here and thankfully it’ been dry here the last few days.

“The plan was to save our run to as late as possible but when Paul’s horse went it sort of forced our hand a bit.”

“He has loads of entries at Cheltenham and I wouldn’t be frightened to go up to three with him but we’ll have to weigh up the Festival.”

The bookmakers made the Ultima Handicap Chase the most realistic Festival target for Who Dares Wins and cut him into 16-1 for that heat.
