LORD LARIAT caused a massive 40-1 upset in the Irish Grand National at Fairyhouse.
The seven-year-old gave small-time trainer Dermot McLoughlin back-to-back wins in the big race – after 150-1 shot Freewheelin Dylan 12 months ago.
He beat the front-runner Frontal Assault (18-1) into second place, with the 11-2 favourite Gaillard Du Mesnil back in third ahead of Screaming Colours (18-1).
The horse was ridden by 7lb claimer Patrick O’Hanlon – who had ridden just nine winners all season.
The winning rider said: “Dermot filled me with confidence going out there today, we really liked his chance.
“But to actually win an Irish Grand National is unbelievable – it hasn’t sunk in yet.”
