Who won the Irish Grand National? How every horse finished in the 5.00 at Fairyhouse

JP McMANUS once again proved himself the shrewdest operator in racing after recent purchase I Am Maximus landed the Irish National.

The billionaire racing legend bought the Willie Mullins-trained 8-1 chance just last month.

It proved to be an inspired move as the horse surged home late on under a genius Paul Townend ride.

JP said after his fourth Irish National winner: “I’m so lucky to have him. I won this race 40 years ago – I’m just very excited to win it.

“You never get tired of winning the Irish National!

“I must compliment Paul and the ride he gave the horse.

“If he was listening to me I would have sad pull him up after a mile! It’s so special.

“Paul’s strength and the horse’s resolution. You have to stay and he did it in spades.

“Well done to Willie and all the staff.”

I Am Maximus hit a high of 120 in-running on the Betfair Exchange.

Only six of the 27 runners finished in attritional conditions at Fairyhouse.
