WILLIAM Henry snatched an unlikely victory from the jaws of defeat in the National Spirit Hurdle.

Nicky Henderson’s 10-year-old looked dead and buried turning for home as Quel Destin and Thomas Darby went head-to-head.

But that pair began to empty on the run-in, and jockey Nico De Boinville could sense an opportunity on the climb to the line.

And the 2019 Coral Cup hero didn’t need a second invitation as he swept by in the final strides with Quel Destin having to settle for silver having looked all over the winner clearing the last.

There was joy for some in-running punters on Betfair, who backed William Henry at a high of 580-1, but despair for those who took long odds-on about Quel Destin.
