Windsor review: Pogo dominates Midsummer field and Repartee returns with a cosy win

CONNECTIONS of Pogo will have been bouncing after his runaway win in the Listed Midsummer Stakes at Windsor.

The four-year-old’s form has suddenly taken off this year, and he could have his sights raised significantly in the coming weeks.

Pogo was a ready winner of the Midsummer Stakes

An excellent third in the Royal Hunt Cup just 11 days ago, the Charles Hills-trained colt was gunned out of the stalls under a positive Kieran Shoemark.

And when he gave Pogo a back-hand flick 2f from home the response was instant and he drew right away for a five and a half length win.

Paddy Power make him a 25-1 poke for the Sussex Stakes at Glorious Goodwood where a clash with Siskin awaits.

Shoemark said: “He came home very well in the Hunt Cup and he has always worked very well.

“I really like this horse, he is really going the right way he is very progressive. Onwards and upwards.”

Earlier on the card, Repartee bagged the Listed Carnarvon Stakes to continue the fine run of trainer Kevin Ryan.

-based Ryan saddled Hello Youmzain to win the Diamond Jubilee at Royal Ascot eight days ago.

And the promising colt, who had smart form at two and is from the family of crack miler Kingman, knuckled down well to win cosily under Andrea Atzeni on his reappearance.

One for the notebook…

Dance Fever (3.35) may have lost his unbeaten record at Windsor today.

But he was a shade unlucky when a never-nearer fourth in a tactical affair having been stopped in his run at a key moment.

It was a performance that suggests he can be effective off this sort of mark for his shrewd trainer.
