Winning machine Top Notch provides Nicky Henderson with seventh Peterborough Chase

WINNING machine Top Notch claimed yet another big prize as he saw off 100-1 shot Kauto Riko in the Peterborough Chase.

The popular, pint-sized chaser took his record to 16 wins from 29 starts and gave Nicky Henderson a seventh victory in Huntingdon’s feature race.

And the 15-8 favourite looked set to win easily as he overtook the bold-jumping mare La Bague Au Roi between the final two fences.

But Tom Gretton’s rank outsider gave game chase in the closing stages and was only three-quarters of a length behind at the line, running the race of his life.

A third place finish was a step back in the right direction for Warren Greatrex’s La Bague Au Roi, who was pulled up on her return to action at Wetherby last month.

But it was Top Notch who came out on top, with his odds for the Ryanair Chase cut to 14-1 from 25-1 in the process.
