York Ebor: CONFIRMED runners and riders and Templegate tip for Saturday’s blockbuster horse race

THIS is it, the big one – the York Ebor is a thunderous race over the Knavesmire and a devilishly difficult punting puzzle to solve.

Good job then that we’ve got Templegate on the case.

Sonnyboyliston was a thrilling winner of the Ebor last year

Our man has been in red-hot form so far this week and has gone through every runner and rider of the 3.35 race in fine detail.

Below, you will find a comprehensive guide to the entire field and Templegate’s selection at the bottom.

Don’t forget you back a horse simply by clicking their odds. Best of luck.

York Ebor confirmed runners and riders

GET SHIRTY 3

Jockey: Danny Tudhope

SHIRT on. Won over 2m at Royal Ascot and followed up by taking the Old Newton Cup at Haydock last time. Is up another 5lb for that but is in cracking form and won’t be far away.

ENEMY 2

Jockey: David Egan

ENEMY fired. Has been outclassed in Group races since winning a decent Musselburgh handicap over this trip in April.

Is 11lb higher now so needs the drop in class to help.

MAX VEGA 2

Jockey: Rob Hornby

MAX lax. Solid form over 1m4f and was good enough to win a Group 3 at Newbury in April. Struggled in the Yorkshire Cup here after that and again at Goodwood so needs to bounce back.

FANCY MAN 3

Jockey: Sean Levey

FAIR Fancy. Landed a Listed race on the AW this winter over 1m2f but looks capable of staying this far and not disgraced at Goodwood last time. Any ground suits and he has place claims.

EVER PRESENT 4

Jockey: Shane Foley

PRESENT a gift. Won three of four last season including a big handicap at Leopardstown in September. He looked rusty on comeback at Down Royal last month and will be spot on today. Up 7lb but a major player.

JOHN LEEPER 3

Jockey: Adam Kirby

LEEPER rises. Not won since juvenile season but has two good seconds around here this season. Didn’t fire at Goodwood last time but this is his handicap debut and Ed Dunlop is in excellent form.

OKITA SOUSHI 3

Jockey: Mikey Sheehy

SOUSHI tasty. Good third in a Royal Ascot handicap over a similar trip and not asked too many questions at Leopardstown latest. Looks on a fair mark and has more improvement to come.

GLOBAL STORM 2

Jockey: William Buick

STORM warning. Landed a decent handicap in Dubai this Spring but hasn’t fired this summer including when modest at Goodwood latest. Was held off this mark here in May so needs more.

RODRIGO DIAZ 3

Jockey: Jamie Spencer

GO for it. Fair second to the useful Coltrane in Listed company at Sandown last time and he sees out this trip well. David Simcock is in good form and he’s an each-way contender.

SHANROE 3

Jockey: Robbie Colgan

ROE in. Was fourth in this 12 months ago and is only 4lb higher here. Warmed up with an easy win at Galway and looks a big price to make the places again.

RAYMOND TUSK 2

Jockey: Martin Harley

TUSK Tsk. Fourth in this back in 2019 but hasn’t shown much this season and struggled at Haydock last time out.

CANDLEFORD 4

Jockey: Tom Marquand

CANDLE bright. Ran a cracker to win the Duke Of Edinburgh at Royal Ascot before a fair run at Newmarket when he met lots of trouble in running. Is 13lb higher than that victory but stays well and can’t be discounted.

LICENCE 3

Jockey: Gary Carroll

LICENCE to thrill. Has shown some promise at Group level in Ireland and should see out this longer trip. Yard won this three years ago so he’s respected.

EARL OF TYRONE 4

Jockey: Billy Lee

EARL a pearl. Won a June trial for this at The Curragh in good style. before following up in Listed class at Limerick. Has gone up 16lb but is an improver who is right in the hunt again.

GAASSEE 5

Jockey: Kieran Shoemark

LIFE’S a Gaas. Won nicely here at the May meeting over 1m4f and was unlucky not to follow up in the Old Newton Cup at Haydock last time. He looks on a fair weight and has much more to come for William Haggas.

CALLING THE WIND 2

Jockey: Pat Cosgrave

ILL Wind. Solid third in Queen Alexandra at Royal Ascot so won’t lack for stamina but found 2m on the short side at Sandown and is likely to be outpaced.

EUCHEN GLEN 3

Jockey: Paul Mulrennan

MONARCH of Glen. Game veteran who went close in a hot handicap at Glorious Goodwood last time. He was midfield in this 12 months ago but is a stone lower today and can hit the frame with extra place bookies.

BENAUD 2

Jockey: Jim Crowley

BEN-no. Easy winner of an egg-and-spoon race at Bellewstown after a couple of modest runs. Bred to like this trip but needs to raise his game.

TRAWLERMAN 4

Jockey: Frankie Dettori

TOP Man. Career best when winning over this trip at Goodwood last time. Carries a 4lb penalty for that but Frankie takes over on the Gosden runner and he has a live chance.

QUENELLE D’OR 2

Jockey: Neil Callan

D’OR open, Front-runner who went close at Royal Ascot before a poor effort at Leopardstown. Looks on a fair weight and stays but must step up again.

ALFRED BOUCHER 4

Jockey: P J McDonald

KING Alfred. Smooth winner over 2m here on Wednesday and back with just a 4lb penalty. Repeat of that would give him every chance provided it hasn’t left too big a mark.

VALLEY FORGE 2

Jockey: David Probert

GREEN Valley. Scored over 2m at Haydock in May and not far behind Trawlerman at Goodwood last time. No obvious reason why he’ll turn that around here.

Templegate’s tip

STEP on the Gaas in the Ebor.

GAASSEE is a stayer on the up who was impressive when scoring here at the May meeting.

He then went close in the Old Newton Cup at Haydock when getting no luck. He looks capable of better for William Haggas.

Frankie has a good chance of winning his first Ebor in a decade on Trawlerman who was a game Goodwood winner.

Another Haggas runner in Candleford scored at Royal Ascot before a solid effort at Newmarket. He has more to come.

Alfred Boucher did us a favour here earlier this week and is right in the hunt taking on these stronger rivals.

Ever Present and Earl Of Tyrone complete the shortlist.
