Young jockey Laura Pearson could be the next Hollie Doyle after wowing punters in breakthrough winter

YOUNG jockey Laura Pearson could be set for a big 2021 after a breakthrough winter.

The rider has wowed punters in recent months, with some drawing comparisons to Hollie Doyle.

Pearson has ridden 11 winners in December

She has ridden three winners over the Christmas period, including a success on Furzig at Lingfield which has racing fans purring.

One punter said: “Lot of talk about Laura Pearson at the moment. That is why. Smooth and stylish ride on Furzig at Lingfield.”

Another Tweeted: “Laura Pearson with two winners in two days. Impressive pilot.”

While another added: “Laura Pearson is going places quickly!”

And one fan said: “I think 2021 could be Laura Pearson’s year. Sublime steering through the pack. Look out, Hollie Doyle!”

The 19-year-old has ridden 16 winners in her career so far.

Her first success came aboard the John Ryan-trained Plucky Dip at Catterick in October 2018.

She is an apprentice jockey to up-and-coming Newmarket-based trainer Tom Clover.

But she has also ridden winners for Ralph Beckett, Richard Fahey and David Loughnane.

She recently signed up with jockey’s agent Steven Croft, which has seen her number of rides shoot up.

Success on Furzig at Lingfield on Thursday took her tally of winners in December to an impressive 11.
