Novak Djokovic Takes a Dig at Rafael Nadal After Winning Paris Masters

Going for the Records

Novak Djokovic, the world No1 in tennis, secured his 40th Masters title by defeating Grigor Dimitrov 6-4 6-3 at the Paris Masters on Sunday. After the match, Djokovic made it clear that he is determined to break "all possible records" before retiring. He stated, "I'm going for all possible records, all that I can break. I've never had a problem saying that. And that's why people don't like me."

A Subtle Jab at Nadal

Djokovic's comments seemed to be directed at his tennis rival Rafael Nadal, who downplayed his own achievements last year by saying he doesn't care about being the best in history. Djokovic added, "I didn't pretend like some people… to say that it's not my goal, and then to behave differently after… I always tried to be in line with what I believe."

Chasing Records

At 36 years old, Djokovic already holds the record for the most Grand Slam titles in men's singles with 24, surpassing Nadal by two and Roger Federer by four. Now, he has his sights set on breaking Jimmy Connors' record for the most ATP titles in history, which currently stands at 109. Djokovic currently has 97, and he stated, "Why shouldn't I try to break that record too? Now I have 12 less [than Connors], but I also have a few more years of successful tennis."

Every Win Matters

Djokovic emphasized the significance of each victory, stating, "When you consider the stage of my life and career that I am in, and to win such a big tournament… Although it may seem like a routine to people, every win at the Masters and Grand Slam levels really means so much to me."

Novak Djokovic's determination to break records and his subtle dig at Rafael Nadal have sparked excitement among tennis fans. With his impressive career achievements, it's no wonder Djokovic wants to leave a lasting legacy in the sport. Will he be able to surpass Jimmy Connors' record and solidify his position as one of the greatest tennis players of all time? Only time will tell.
