TENNIS fans have blasted the BBC for not having John McEnroe commentate on the Wimbledon final.
McEnroe has been a regular pundit on the BBC‘s coverage of Wimbledon for a number of years.
Fans missed John McEnroe’s commentary on the BBC
They were critical of BBC’s commentary of the Wimbledon final between Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz
Like years past he has continued his work with the broadcaster this year, offering his colourful takes on the SW19 tournament.
However, fans were not happy with him not being on BBC’s coverage of the men’s singles final between Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz.
Taking to Twitter one fan wrote: “The BBC failing to give us the man we want to hear and that’s John McEnroe for a Wimbledon final.”
A second said: “Missing McEnroe’s commentary.”
Another fan was not happy with substitute Andrew Castle, remarking: “Andrew Castle commentating on the final is an absolutely pathetic decision by the BBC.
“John McEnroe is so much better and knowledgeable.”
But there is a good reason the explosive American is not with the BBC this time around, and that is due to having commitments elsewhere.
The 64-year-old, who won Wimbledon three times (1981, 1983 and 1984), is actually working for American broadcaster ESPN.

And one fan was gutted at him not being available, tweeting: “McEnroe is head and shoulders above other commentators at #Wimbledon and much-missed on the BBC coverage when he’s working for US TV.”
Seven-time Wimbledon winner Djokovic landed himself in hot water during the final, with fans furious at his perceived time-wasting tactics and the umpire’s leniency towards it in the second set.
Regardless, the 36-year-old went on the lose that thrilling set on a tiebreak after demolishing Alcaraz 6-1 in the opening set.
