Disgraced Boris Becker Returns to Tennis as Coach After Jail Stint, Banned from Wimbledon

New Coaching Role

Disgraced tennis ace Boris Becker has made a sensational return to the sport with a new coaching role. The German, who served eight months in a UK jail for hiding assets after declaring bankruptcy, has landed a job coaching Danish star Holger Rune. Becker, who previously coached Novak Djokovic to six Grand Slams, confirmed his new role on a German Eurosport podcast.

Banned from Wimbledon

Despite gaining a new coaching role, Becker will not be allowed to go to Wimbledon next year. Due to the terms of his license, he is unable to return to the UK until October 2024. This means that Rune, who reached the quarter-finals of this year's tournament, will have to go it alone at SW19.

Finding the Best Holger Rune

Becker expressed his enthusiasm for coaching Rune, describing him as a "rough diamond that needs polishing." He praised the young player's commitment and temperament on the court. Becker also emphasized the importance of the team behind Rune's success, including his performance coach and his mother Aneke. He stated that his ambition is to help Rune reach his full potential and find the best version of himself as a tennis player.
