Emma Raducanu Feels “Reborn” After Overcoming Injuries and Rehabilitation

Struggles and Setbacks

Emma Raducanu, the 2021 US Open champion, has revealed the challenges she faced during her rehab and recovery from multiple surgeries. The 21-year-old underwent surgery on her left ankle and both wrists earlier this year, which left her needing wheeled transportation to get around her house. She even had to use a mobility knee scooter to assist her mobility during this time.

Appreciating Health and Mobility

Raducanu expressed her gratitude for being healthy and mobile after experiencing the limitations of her injuries. She couldn't use crutches and relied on the scooter to move around. Simple tasks like brushing her teeth became difficult as she had to resist using her hands during the initial stages of rehabilitation. This experience reignited her passion for tennis and motivated her to make a comeback.

Return to the Tennis Circuit

After dropping to 298th in the WTA world rankings, Raducanu is ready to make her return to competitive tennis. She will be participating in the ASB Classic in Auckland this week. In the first round, she will face a qualifier, and a potential match against former Australian Open champion Caroline Wozniacki or Ukrainian Elina Svitolina awaits in the second round.

A Fresh Outlook

Raducanu describes her current state as feeling "reborn." She feels positive, lighter, and excited to be back on the court. During training and practice, she has been performing exceptionally well and believes she has become a better tennis player during her break. Now, she aims to translate her improved skills into match situations.

Raducanu's journey of overcoming injuries and rehabilitation serves as an inspiration to all athletes. Her determination and resilience have brought her back to the sport she loves, and fans eagerly await her return to competitive tennis.
