Former Wimbledon champion ‘smashed up every trophy he had won’ after fuming over ex-wife’s role in TV show Friends

FORMER Wimbledon champion Andre Agassi “smashed up every trophy he had won” after fuming over his ex-wife’s role in Friends.

Actress and model Brooke Shields’ 1996 appearance on the TV show caused a stir amongst viewers but enraged her then partner.

The couple were married between 1997 and 1999, with Agassi attending the set for Shields’ filming of the iconic scene alongside Matt LeBlanc.

However, the 1992 Wimbledon champion was left fuming as he watched his ex-wife licking her co-star’s hand for the cameras during the steamy exchange.

Shields lifted the lid on his enraged reaction in an interview with the New Yorker earlier this year.

She claimed: “Andre was in the audience supporting me, and he stormed out.

“He said, ‘Everybody’s making fun of me. You made a fool of me by that behaviour.’ I’m like, ‘It’s comedy! What is the matter with you?’”

She continued by adding that once they got home he “smashed up all of his trophies” in a fit of rage.

USA Today previously reported in 2014 that Shields had made similar allegations in her autobiography.

In the book, she alleges Agassi “systematically smashed and destroyed every single trophy he had won, including Wimbledon and the US Open.”

The couple split up in 1999 and both remarried in 2001, tying the knot with their current partners.

Agassi, who is a former world number one, wed fellow tennis star Steffi Graf.

The American won eight Grand Slam titles during his career and was the second man to complete the career Grand Slam in the Open Era.

Since his retirement in 2006, he has worked with his own charity as well as appearing in charity tennis tournaments.

Agassi has also made guest appearances as a commentator and pundit.

He briefly made a return to the tour in 2017 after becoming Novak Djokovic’s coach, but the pair went their separate ways the following year.
