French Open tennis tips: Diego Schwartzman can stop hotshot Thiem in his tracks

IT’S time for Argentine Diego Schwartzman to turn up the heat at the French Open.

The smallest player on tour packs a punch and should have too much in the locker for a fatigued Dominic Thiem on Tuesday.

Rafael Nadal is once again one of the favourites for this year’s French Open

The quarter-final clash is one of the most hotly anticipated matches of the tournament so far and pits two of the classiest clay courters around up against each other.

Thiem has been one of the French Open favourites for a while, but faced a huge challenge from home favourite Hugo Gaston in the last round, bludgeoning his way through in five hard-fought sets.

Despite the Austrian’s famed fitness there’s no doubt he’ll be struggling both mentally and physically after that, giving Schwartzman, who’s won all his matches in straight sets, a big chance of progressing.

The Argentine gets better each time he tackles the surface and took the scalp of none other than Rafael Nadal in Rome last month.

He’s strolled through the opening rounds of Roland Garros this year and should pose Thiem massive problems if producing his best under the lights of Philip Chatrier.

It would be no surprise to see him reach his first Grand Slam semi-final, and at 13-8 with Ladbrokes, he looks stunning value to do just that.
