Jelena Djokovic throws glass of water at Novak as he heads off to Wimbledon final against Carlos Alcaraz

NOVAK DJOKOVIC’S wife threw water at her husband as he left home for the Wimbledon final.

The Serbian superstar, 36, takes on Carlos Alcaraz this afternoon aiming to win his eighth Wimbledon singles crown.

Novak Djokovic’s family threw water at him

The Serb laughed as he headed to his car

It is a Serbian good-luck tradition

That would tie him level with Roger Federer on eight titles – and join Margaret Court on a record 24 Grand Slams overall.

And as he headed off from his rented house in Wimbledon to go to the All England Club, he was on the receiving end of a brilliant good-luck message.

Wife Jelena and their kids Stefan and Tara gave Djokovic a special farewell by chucking glasses of water behind him.

Djokovic, in his whites and carrying his bags, looked over his shoulder smiling as he waved his family goodbye to go and get warmed up and ready to take on Alcaraz.

The concept of throwing water behind someone as they start a joruney is understood to be a Serbian tradition of good luck.

The short video on Jelena’s Instagram story shows a giggling Novak scampering away from the water before he walks towards a car that has arrived to collect him and take him to the final.

Djokovic warmed up for the showpiece event on Court 15 a little earlier on.

He went through his usual drills and just got the body moving before he steps out on to Centre Court.

Already securing his place as arguably the greatest tennis player of all time, Djokovic is aiming to write more records this afternoon.

He would join Federer and Bjorn Borg as the only men in the Open Era to win five Wimbledon crowns in a row.

At 36, he would also become the oldest champion in the Open Era – incredibly no one born after Djokovic in May 1987 has lifted the famous golden trophy.

And victory would also see him overtake Alcaraz to secure the No1 world ranking again.

The pair are battling it out on the court – but off it they have very different lives.

Djokovic has a collection of stunning homes around the world whereas Alcaraz will go back to his parents’ £170,000 flat above a kebab shop.
