Who is Liam Broady’s dad Simon?
Liam’s parents Simon and Shirley Broady are from Stockport, England.
They have both played significant roles in shaping Liam’s tennis career from a tender age.
However, Liam’s relationship with his father hasn’t always been plain sailing.
The rift came about when the tennis star decided to rebuild a few bridges with the Lawn Tennis Association – an organisation his family had history with.
In 2007 the governing body of British tennis withdrew funding for Liam’s older sister, Naomi, after she was snapped next to a condom machine.
Dad Simon responded by going it alone by what he saw as the LTA’s overreaction together with other concerns over the organisation’s coaching set-up.
Simon told M.E.N Sports in 2011: “They made life so awkward for us that we simply had to cut ties with them.
“Since then we’ve existed however we can by paying for everything ourselves.
“It’s not easy but we were left with no option.”
Simon took it hard when Liam decided to go back in with the LTA for funding and training purposes.
The pair stopped talking for years, but in 2016, Liam rejected funding from the LTA in an attempt to settle the family rift.
Speaking to the Evening Standard, he said of his father: “We are getting on better than we have in a long time.
“I spoke to him at Christmas for the first time in God knows how long, and a couple of times since.
“I stopped working with the LTA in November to try to reach out to him.”
He added: “So now I’m funding myself.”
Who is Liam Broady’s mum Shirley?
Shirley, a former tennis player herself, is Liam’s number one supporter.
She can often be seen attending his matches and gets nervous before each of his games.
On July 6, 2023, Liam celebrated the biggest payday of his career after his win against world number four Casper Ruud in a five-set thriller.
The 29-year-old said after the match: “When I went to bed last night, I had a think about what I would say if I won and now I don’t know what to say!”
He joked: “I said to my mum this morning – she doesn’t like watching – I’ve already won £80,000 this week so she can chill out.”
Who are Liam Broady’s siblings?
Liam has three other siblings Naomi, Emma, and Calum Broady.
His sister Naomi is also a professional tennis player and is best known for her aggressive playing style.
She became a professional in 2006 and has since taken part in the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) tour.
