Nick Kyrgios tests positive for Covid and huge doubt for Australian Open amid Novak Djokovic deportation drama

NICK KYRGIOS is a major doubt for the Australian Open after testing positive for Covid.

He becomes the latest player to contract the virus ahead of the first Grand Slam of the new season.

Nick Kyrgios posted on Instagram to reveal he has tested positive for Covid

The Aussie maverick took to social media to confirm his case.

Kyrgios, who pulled out of a warm-up tournament in Sydney this week, said: “Hey everyone, I just want to be open and transparent with everyone.

“The reason I have had to pull out of Sydney is because I tested positive for Covid.

“I am feeling healthy at the moment with no symptoms.

“I wish everyone all the best and to stay safe where you can.

“If all goes well I will see you all at the Australian Open.”

Kyrgios’ home major starts next Monday – which means he could potentially complete his seven-day isolation and compete in Melbourne.

However, he has not played any events leading up to the Australian Open and his last competitive tennis match was way back in September.

The news comes against the backdrop drama regarding Novak Djokovic’s possible deportation from Australia.
