Roger Federer and Serena Williams SNUBBED from Wimbledon entry list with legendary duo relying on tournament wildcards

, Roger Federer and Serena Williams SNUBBED from Wimbledon entry list with legendary duo relying on tournament wildcards

ROGER FEDERER and SERENA WILLIAMS have not been included on the entry list for this month’s Wimbledon.

The pair, who have 15 Wimbledon titles between them, could be set to both be absent for the grand slam, which starts on June 27.

The pair are two of the most successful tennis players of all time

Both 40-year-olds haven’t featured since the prior Wimbledon, where they both pointed to injuries as the reason behind their defeats.

The tournament without the pair would be the first time neither would be present since 1998 before they both started to dominate throughout the 2000s.

The heavyweight duo both still have a chance however, with organisers yet to announce the wildcard entrants for the competition.

The tournament will already be without men’s number two Daniil Medvedev after it was announced Russian and Belarusian players were banned by the All-England club.

Women’s number one Naomi Osaka had originally claimed she may not compete due to the sanctions imposed on players from Russia and Belarus, however she is confirmed to be entering.

Federer is an eight-time winner of the world’s most prestigious tennis tournament, with his victory in 2017 defying murmurs that he was past his best.

However, a near year long absence for the Swiss superstar caused speculation that he would be considering retirement, after requiring surgery for his knee issues.

Williams was already heavily strapped up when she began her Wimbledon campaign last year, and a couple of slips lead to her retirement in the first round.

Both will be sweating on the organiser’s choices for wildcards, which are expected “shortly before The Championships 2022.”

However, with immense pedigree in the competition, both will be hopeful they’ll be high on the list to secure their places for another year.
