ROGER FEDERER is in the last eight of Wimbledon after breezing past Italian Lorenzo Sonego with a straight-sets victory.
The 20-time Grand Slam winner beat Sonego 7-5, 6-4, 6-2 to set up a clash against Daniil Medvedev or Hubert Hurkacz.
It is a record 18th time that the legendary Swiss has made a Wimbledon quarter and his 58th Grand Slam quarter-final.
Speaking in front of a rapturous crowd, he said: “I heard congratulations at the end of the question – the rest was lost!
“I felt after the first set I was able to control things. I couldn’t be more excited to be in the quarters. Thank you guys for coming out and supporting and making it special.
“It is not fair for anyone. I have been in these situations before – but these guys are young and they can recover!
“Unfortunately, they are very, very good too, so hopefully it rains again tomorrow… I’m kidding, I’m kidding!”
