Tennis Star Medvedev Accused of Swearing at Paris Crowd After Being Booed – But He Claims ‘I Was Just Checking My Nails’

Accusations and Denial

Tennis star Daniil Medvedev has been accused of swearing at the Paris Masters crowd after being booed during his round of 32 match with Grigor Dimitrov. However, the Russian athlete has denied the allegations, claiming that he was simply checking his nails.

Boos and Punishment

Medvedev faced intense booing throughout the match at the Accor Arena on Wednesday. The crowd's reaction was so intense that he was even punished for refusing to play at one point during the game.

A Gesture Caught on Camera

After losing the three-set match to Dimitrov, Medvedev was jeered as he walked off the court. It was at this moment that he was caught on camera appearing to gesture towards the crowd. The footage shows him extending his middle finger before waving it in the direction of the fans.

Denial and Explanation

When questioned about the incident during a media interview after the defeat, Medvedev denied the accusations. He argued that he was simply checking his nails and that there was nothing more to it. He expressed confusion as to why he would do such a thing to the "beautiful crowd" in Paris-Bercy.

A Familiar Situation

This is not the first time Medvedev has faced a hostile crowd. Back in September, during the US Open, he clashed with the audience, calling them "stupid" and telling them to "shut up" during his second-round match. Despite the crowd's reaction, Medvedev went on to reach the final but was defeated by Novak Djokovic in straight sets.
