Elina Svitolina was born in Odessa, Ukraine in 1994 and is the daughter former wrestler Mikhaylo Svitolin and professional rower Olena Svitolina.
She began playing tennis at the age of five and quickly caught the attention of local scouts, including businessman Yuriy Sapronov who became her sponsor.
Elina had her first taste of Wimbledon in 2012 when she reached the final of the girls singles, but lost to Eugenie Bouchard.
She has won 17 WTA Tour singles titles and finished runner-up three times.
